Foodie Travel Stops on the ICW

I have been remise in my Foodie blog but here’s an update. Yes, we travel on our palate. Then again, why not. If you have to eat - might as well be good food! I have been cooking a lot more on the boat because we've been traveling and anchored out instead of hitting land - but when we do make it to a dock - we're looking for provisions. Here's a few of the one's we have found along the way that deserve mention. Pix to follow at some point - but take my word for it....worth the trip/stop if you're in the area.

Criteria to be mentioned: Food and Service MUST be great.

Coinjock - ICW Mile Marker 50. Don’t miss the fabulous Prime Rib at the Coinjock Marina (coinjockmarina.com) If you’re headed to the Outer Banks - make it a stop.

Alligator River Marina, Columbia NC - Best Fried Chicken EVER. See Jill and Nanette for some real Southern style, finger licking goodness.

Belhaven - Call ahead and make reservations at Spoon River. (spoonrivernc.com) Farm-to-Fork style restaurant. Not only will you enjoy the cuisine but the wine selection, mixed drink concoctions and desserts are to die for. You will want to walk back to your hotel/marina - you will not leave hungry.

Southport - Fishy Fishy Cafe is the spot for great views (Bar has a great view of the Sunset) and yummy food. (fishyfishycafe.com) Shrimp and wild mushroom Risotto special I hope they keep that as a permanent item on the menu!

Charleston - Next to Downtown Charleston Marina Variety Store (varietystorerestaurant.com) - Try the She Crab soup with Sherry and for breakfast try the Chicken Fried Benedict. Yeah, crazy good. Full bar too.

Beaufort - Blackstone's Cafe (blackstonescafe.com) on Scott Street in downtown Bew-fort off Bay. Warm southern hospitality is served up with awesome corn beef hash and perfectly poached eggs, awesome croissant sandwich and they have great sandwiches too! Try the Chicken salad wrap.

St. Simon's Island - Coastal Kitchen and Raw Bar on the docs of Morningstar Marina. Convenient yes, but also great food. Shrimp and Grits, fresh hand stuffed Lobster and Crab ravioli's, Curry Asparagus Soup with Lump Crab meat. Oh and if you're in the mood for a cheeseburger in paradise - have one here. Vermont Cheese and Prime Angus Beef. Nice wine list and full bar.
